    To Define the Moment:

Thank you for taking the time to put this together for Rockey Gesner’s friends and family.

Its a hard day at Sumner High School today from what I hear, and many people are mourning his loss.

Motocross is a sport where we knew the outcome, good or bad.

Rocky knew, and he died participating in a sport he loved.

I’d rather lose someone I love to something they love, rather than to some drunk driver in a speeding car, or someone with a gun.

Rocky Gesner is now an angel looking out for all of us at the track racing.

Like what Rocky’s friends have said this weekend at Washougal.

    Ride or Die.

Rest in peace Rocky Gesner. 446.

  • Ryan Miller said:

Rocky I’m going to miss seeing you every weekend at the track, we had some good battles on the track, I will always remember you as the same light hearted kid I lined up against so many times these past 3 years. I feel privilaged to have known you, you were a good friend to us all. My prayers go out to you and your family.

  • Father of a Son and Daughter Racer said:

To truly live, we must live in the moment, In Motocross that is what we all do. It is in this moment that we can remember what it is that we truly do love to do.

As a father I am sadened by this death, I can only hope that the times that you spent with your son were amongst the greatest and joyous memories that you have. Being at the Motocross track’s, traveling to and from the events, the long nights in the garage, prepping bikes and re living the moments.

I am extremely grateful for the times that I get to go to the track with my kids, I get to spend time with them and they are also my Best Friends. I am sure this is the way it was with your Son. My family and I will continue to Honor your son, by living in the moment, just like he did.

    Celebrate his life!!

    God Bless You.

To all Rocky’s family and friends; from the moment I met Rocky I knew he was special. Ashley kept trying to tell me they were just friends, but as her Aunt I knew she was in love. Soon after we met him, they started dating and what a pair. So beautiful, both of them and so in love. It was a wonderful 1 1/2 relationship with many ups and downs, a break-up or two and get back togethers. Through it all, they remainded friends and it was the best thing of all. They will forever be in each other’s hearts and Rocky will be missed by all of Ashley’s family. Like Ashley said, Grandma will finally get to meet her love as they are both now in heaven together. Her Papa has enjoyed meeting all the family and sends his heartfelt condolences to each of you. Rocky was one of those beautiful souls that left a lasting impression on every person he met. Bright, kind, charming and a beautiful light. I guess the saying is true, only the good die young and he was the best! Ride on the highest clouds now and God speed dear Rocky.

We would like to thank all the people that have shown so much love and care for the whole Gesner family during this period. The best medicine we have had the last couple of days came from the young people that dropped by and showed their love for our grandson. Hearing the laughter from Rocky’s bedroom lifted our spirits. We would not have traded a moment with Rocky in order to save the pain we are going through. Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you!!!! Kids stop by and see Bret and Shari anytime you feel like it, they love you all. Love to the moon and back!! And if thats not enough back and forth again.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Rocky. We did not know him personally, but it hit home for a lot of us. We were at the track when this happened. My son rides in the 50 class. Need less to say, he did not ride to his fullest on his first moto. We were down at the starting gate when the EMT’s brought him down.

From the time we heard that Hyper X was making shirts, both of my children were down there bugging them so they could show their respect.

On Sunday, my son would not ride until he had a shirt to wear over his gear. He rode his heart out for Rocky Sunday and did Great.

God bless you all and our prayers are with you.

Rocky, your were an amazing friend, there was never a dull moment with you around. Everything you did was 110% no matter what. You were the most solid person i have and will ever meet, i know that i will never live up to what you accomplished in the 18 years you were alive but im going to try as hard as i can everyday because you are a true inspiration. I know that everytime line up on the gate you will be there with me, everytime i have AC/DC blasting driving down the road you will be there with me, and i know that through thick and thin everyday….you will be there with me. You will be greatly missed by all who knew you.

To the Gesner family and the many friends of Rocky Gesner.
Over the past 30 years I have grown to know and love the community that we call Motocross. Standing in towers with a microphone in my hand I have been fortunate to call the names of each and every rider on any given weekend, as well as experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat through all of your eyes. The passion and togetherness that all of us feel about our sport is unparalelled. On Satuday morning as I hugged my son Broc at the tower, told him to do his best and have fun as I do every race, he lined up for practice next to a young man named Rocky with the #446 as he had done many times before over the past three years. Rocky Gesner caught everyones eye on a weekly basis! His unbridled enthusiasim for our sport inspired, motivated and gave all of us hope that we could win on any Sunday or plain just have fun trying even if we did’nt, reminding us all why we started riding dirtbikes in the first place because it brought joy to our hearts and a smile to our faces, Rocky was motocross. My son Broc, daughter Brianna and I wish to send our heartfelt condolences to all who knew Rocky especially his Mother and Father whom have been such an inspiration to so many other riders and thier families with out even knowing it!!!! Rocky it was a pleasure to announce your name because you always caught my eye and never gave up.
Sometimes all of us take the little things for granted something I have been told over and over that Rocky did not do, he should never be forgotten. He will ride through the wind and jump through the heavens watching over all of us becuase thats what Rocky did, making all of us believe we were WINNERS! Thank-you to all who made Sunday morning so special by joining hands and remembering our fallen hero #446 God Speed Rocky……

    To Rocky’s Parents,

As a motocross mom, my thoughts and prayers have been with you since we heard the news Saturday morning. I knew Rocky just a little as he was friends with our sons Lucas 342 and Caleb 253. The few times I met him, I was always impressed with his friendliness and maturity and my husband, Wayne, would always make comments to me after motocross events about what a neat kid Rocky was. Lucas and Caleb just can’t stop talking about what fantastic parents you guys are, and how you guys loved Rocky so much, how much time you spent together, and how Rocky’s dad was his best friend. Your whole family has been such a fantastic role model in so many ways to our sons. If there is ever anything we can do, please ask. We are all very affected by this great loss. We really feel for you.

    Rocky,
I can’t believe that you’re gone. You were one of those people who seemed like they would live forever, always conquering the world, every step of the way. I have so many good memories of you while you went to Orting. I remember in fourth grade when we were playing prisoners of war or something and you accidently pulled the muscle in my arm and I started crying. But you totally came to the nurse’s office with me and stayed with me until I felt better. You had such a kind heart. I remember all the crazy jokes we made in Biology and when you had to put those forks on your fingers for the science project! Good times…good times. You were such a down-to-earth person and I really appreciated that. I’ll miss you a lot!!
    To the Gesner Family:
I am so sorry for your loss. Rocky was such an incredible kid. Although it’s hard that his life only lasted 18 years, he truly lived them to the fullest. He inspired me to live big and to make the most of what days I have left. He will be missed greatly by all.

Rocky was the best person I knew. He truly lived his life to the fullest, and had the oppurtunity to be the greatest he could be, and took that and used it. I love that kid, he was one of my good friends. I only had a short time with him, and since the beginning of my senior year he has made this the best year of my life. He taught me so much about life, and how to live it and believe in myself. He always cheered me up in 4th period, and knew when I was sad or angry, and always came up and gave me a hug, and told me that he was there if I wanted to talk. He was a true friend to everyone, and everyone he met loved him. He was great at what he did, and everything he did he excelled at. Thanks for everything Rocky.

I send my prayers and wishes out to the Gesner family, and I will have them in my thoughts always.

I’ll miss you Rocky, you were an inspiration in my life truly.

Rest in peace my friend, we’ll see you in eternity.

Seeing a friend pass away is the hardest thing that i have had to go through in my entire life, knowing that you rocky were one of the most genuine guys i have ever met, makes it even harder. You taught everyone to live everyday doing what they loved. You made me smile everyday that i saw you. Sweet, nice, outgoing and kind are words that dont even begin to describe the type of person you were.

Getting to know you was one other the greatest things i have experienced in high school. you were one of the most intelligent guys that i have ever met. And i cant believe how much of an incredible athlete you were. you were an amazing swimmer and an unbelievable diver. you creamed the competition everytime. and at the same time you were tearing up the dirt track, smoking everyone.

i will never forget seeing you everyday. you were an amazing guy. enjoy eternity.
    we will never forget you.

[my heart goes out to all your family. i hope they know that you were an incredible kid and they should be proud of everything you have accomplished.]

I am a Motocross Mom that did not know Rocky (I have watched him race tho), but from all I have read it was way to early for him to leave us. I have quite a few friends that knew Rocky, they all have nothing but good to say about him, sounds like he was a terrific son, brother, grandson and friend! Motocross parents are special, we have the understanding of why our kids live, love and breathe motocross. To the family of Rocky, I cannot even imagine, you have been in my thoughts since Saturday morning and I don’t even know you. God bless you all, Rocky will be missed by so many!

If i could be doing one thing right now it would be riding.” Its hard to find the words that explain the impact you had on so many peoples lives in the short time you were here. You were such an insperation, no matter what you were doin you always had someting to offer. I didnt have the privelage of knowing you very well but you still had a major impact on me and my outlook on life. Yesterday, to see all the people who came in memory of you was amazing, so many people touched and so many people hurt by one individual. Its apperant that you may be gone but you will never NEVER be forgotten.

i would like to say thank you to all the friends and family who attended last nights canle light vigil at the Gesner home. It was amazing to see the mass of people who should up to show their love and support. It was a very special and comforting night. I was asked to put a story on here that was told by GRANMA GESNER to me last night.

She Said, ” She beleives that Rocky was never meant to be here on earth. That he was a beautiful sole up in the heavens who one day was looking down thru the clouds and saw a dirtbike. Of course it was a Yamaha. So Rocky snuck away from heaven, and he RODE that dirtbike. When God realized he was gone, he simply took Rocky back. So she knows he is still up there looking down upon us all.”

Rocky, no wonder you were such an incredible kid! You have some of the greatest relatives. What a close and strong family. You also had some great friends. There was a huge turnout. Rest in peace 446.

Rocky was in my US history class and always had something intelligent and witty to say. We all looked forward to his comments. It didn’t matter if you were his best friend or barely knew him, his love to ride and his excitement for life shined in everything he did. He was here to teach us something and he left to teach us something as well. If we could all just be a little more like Rocky, ourlives would be complete. He inspired me to be a happier person and to not focus so much on the little things.

thanks rocky, you’ve taught me so much :)

my prayers are with you and your family.

Last night at the candle lighting it was amazing to see how many people were there. I cant believe that you impacted that many people in your life. You are truly an amazing guy. It was good to hear all the stories that were told about you and get to know you just a little bit better. I am so glad I got to watch you ride on Thursday. You could tell it was what you loved and lived for. I am just still in shock to know that the last time i was going to see you was when you walked down my front porch steps and turned around and said “see ya later” with that little smile on your face that you always do and then you raced off to finish your senior project. Rocky you have made a huge impact on my life in just this short time and I will never forget you. I miss you!

    To the Gesner Family.

The first time we met Rocky was when Rocky was in the 6th Grade, our first encounter was a fight on the bus between Rocky and our son Jon. Little did we know then that they would develope a long friendship from that. Jon learned a great deal from Rocky in reqards to motorcross bikes and some of the tricks. They did not stop there, they also shared the same passion for skateboarding.

Jon has been up to the house for the candlelight and the family attended the Memorial at Ski Lake.

    We will all miss him.

Seemed like no matter what Rocky always had the smile on his face.

Today I saw the old chevy pickup come down the hill, I looked into the cab like always expecting to see Rocky at the wheel. There was a young lady at the wheel.

To the Bret and Shari and the Girls, You have are deepest thoughts.

To Rocky, we will all see you again, go in peace, you have touched us all.

    Rocky,
We didn’t know eachother to well. But one thing about you that i have always remembered is that you could make everyone laugh. We had P.E. together in middleschool. you were in 8th i in 7th. I’ll never forget that year. It was awesome havin you in that class.

When you died it felt like something was gone. Life wasn’t as important. But there was something to strive for. I just didn’t know it until just recently. I know one of your friends from sumner (Tyler J.) he told me a lot about how you two were friends and everything.

You died doing something you love. Its how someone should pass. Doing something them love. Striving for that final lap or what ever it might be. You didn’t know you were going to pass but it hit you so suddenly.

God bless you and your family and friends. I hope when its my time to go and i do we can be friends up in heaven. Get to know eachother because we never had a chance when you went to orting.

    God bless everyone.
